San Poncho

A few years ago our friends Kassidy and Ben Love made the decision to pack up their house in Napa and move to San Pancho, Mexico! They are no strangers to living abroad - before their first baby was born they owned and operated a surf lodge in Nicaragua. Today, they own a real estate and development company called Wanderlust. We jumped at the chance to go visit as soon as they were settled so Rob could get some surf, and I could hang with Kassidy and the kiddos.

San Pancho is located just north of the very popular surf town of Sayulita, and the gorgeous Punta Minta. My first trip to San Pancho was ober 15 years ago when my family rented Casa Melissa for a week of R&R. It was a super sleepy town that only had a couple restaurants, some yoga and surf retreats, a few tiny shops and if you blinked, you missed it. It felt more like a cool old dirt road than a town. At the time Sayulita was just up and coming but still had a super chill and quiet vibe - nothing what it’s like today. In fact, San Pancho is what Sayulita was 15 years ago. There are great restaurants, cool rentals, cute stores and a very international crown.

We sent most of our time in San Pancho, but popped down to Sayulita - just 15 mins away - for an afternoon while the guys went surfing. We hit up Evoke the Spirit, Pachamama, and of course all of my favorite street vendors with amazing pom-poms and wool animals. One of my oldest and more favorite necklaces was from Pachamama, and it was really fun to visit again all these years later - wearing the same leather and black pearl necklace.

Everywhere I travel I bring home textiles or cutting boards, sometimes even both. I started this tradition in Costa Rica when I was 29 and each place I have traveled, I pick something up. This trip was textiles. I popped into a store called Luna Layne and immediately fell for a rug/blanket and throw pillows. Layne works with different artisans across Mexico to create beautiful pieces for her store. I think they looked pretty good in our house when we got homw.
