Visit Jackson Hole

When I was 12 my mom asked us if we wanted to take an adventure for 1 year to get a change of pace and to ski. She had just gone to visit Jackson Hole, Wyoming with her boyfriend who had plans to move there that fall and open a microbrewery. After she returned and told us all about it, the vote was unanimous and just 5 weeks later we moved to Wyoming.

Jackson Hole is home to the Grand Tetons, the Snake River, the gateway to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, and has some of the best outdoor activities in the country! It’s a very easy place to fall in love with and I am very proud to call it home.

From the perspective of a pre-teen girl from Portland, driving over Teton Pass (the pass) and into Wilson’s then infamous Tommy’s Truck Stop was a total shock. Albert - Mom’s boyfriend turned step-dad, parked in front of this rundown cabin and proudly announced “We are Home!” We all started crying. Thank god he was just joking and we drove on to our house in Teton Village.

Flash forward almost 30 years and Jackson has changed SO much. I realize it’s normal for growth and development, but it still makes me really sad. It’s not the under the radar Western ski town it once was, and has become a hub for second or third home owners from around the globe, one of the most exclusive places to ski in the country, and one of largest tourist destinations in the United States.

Regardless of how much it’s change, it’s one of the most beautiful place on earth and I love going home. Now that I have a little one, I hope to spend a lot more time out there to let him experience some of the things I got to growing up, and having an appreciation for natural beauty.
