Design Studio

When I got pregnant, Rob decided to build me a work studio so I could get all of my leather and projects out of the house and give me a place that was just mine. What he built was an absolute dream. I had my own little sanctuary that was flooded with light and had an ocean view. I was obsessed with my space is an understatement. We used reclaimed doors and windows from a friends remodel and he added the wooden beams from our wedding to add some detail to the galvanized roof.

When we moved from our house in Summerland, this was what I was the most sad about. We built it far too well and it was unable to be moved, but one day I’ll have him recreate it for me!

Before the studio was built I had kicked Rob out of his office in the Funk Zone so I could have a place to work. Shortly after, I realized what inspired me was the peace and quiet of the Summerland ranch, and looking at the ocean from my cutting table. We moved out, gave up the space, and ended up back home. We had the perfect cement slab on so we didn’t need a floor, so I threw down all my rugs to warm it up.

The window that opens out above my desk is actually a glass door panel, but I love how it opened up the space and made me feel like I was outside when it was wide open.

The sunrise and sunset in Summerland is incredible. There were many mornings I was up and sit out there with a coffee and some calm just taking it all in. I can’t wait to recreate this space one day.
